In a thrilling finale at Zokorico Field in Kundenda, Chikun Local Government, Kaduna State, Nariya United emerged as the inaugural champions of the Halimatu Ayinde Peace Cup on Tuesday.

 

Their commanding 4-0 triumph over Future Boys showcased exceptional talent and skill, marking a historic moment in the tournament’s maiden edition.

 

The 7-a-side Peace Cup, generously sponsored by Nigeria’s international football sensation Halimatu Ayinde and Rosenberg of Sweden, witnessed fierce competition and camaraderie among 16 participating teams.

 

Augustin Dunyia’s stunning hat-trick and Jonathan Daniel’s goal secured Nariya United’s victory, etching their name into the tournament’s history.

 

Polycarp Sokoto, with an outstanding tally of six goals, claimed the highest goal scorer title, complemented by Ishaku Yusuf’s stellar goalkeeping performance.

 

Future Boys’ Victor Diyo, earning the MVP title, added individual brilliance to the tournament.

 

The semi-finalists, including Future Boys, Nariya United, FC Porto, and Stranger FC, showcased the high level of competition.

 

FC Porto secured the third-place position with a commendable prize of 30k, while Future Boys clinched the second position, earning 50k and exclusive jerseys.

 

Nariya United’s ultimate glory came not only with the championship title but also a grand prize of 100k and championship jerseys, providing a fitting conclusion to the prestigious Peace Cup.

 

Nigeria’s football sensation, Halimatu Ayinde, expressed delight at the successful event, thanking the dignitaries, including traditional rulers and local couxil football officials, who graced the final.

 

She remarked, “The Inaugural Peace Cup has been a testament to the immense talent and passion within our football community. Congratulations to Nariya United for their outstanding victory.”

 

Ayinde also promised continuity, stating, “This is just the beginning; we are committed to continuing the grassroots tournament, nurturing young talents.”

 

Meanwhile, the football community eagerly anticipates the kickoff of the maiden Halimatu Ayinde Women’s Cup starting this Wednesday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, marking another exciting chapter in Northern Nigeria.

 

In a groundbreaking move towards gender inclusivity in sports, Nigerian and Rosengard of Sweden midfielder, Halimatu Ayinde, proudly announces the inaugural Halimatu Ayinde 7-a-side Women’s Cup, set to take place on January 3rd and 4th, 2024, at the iconic Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

 

As a midfielder who has shone on both local and international stages, Ayinde, who won three African Women’s Cup of Nations and attended three Women’s World Cups, believes this is not just a football event; but a platform for empowerment and a bold step towards promoting gender equality.

 

The Halimatu Ayinde 7-a-side Women’s Cup is set to become a cornerstone in championing the achievements of female athletes, encouraging increased participation, and fostering the well-deserved recognition of women in football across the northern region.

 

Before the finals on Thursday, a novelty match will be played between Team Ayinde and Team B2B led by Mrs. Talatu Orduh, a philanthropist, a businesswoman, and wife to Mr. Uche Orduh, a renowned banker in Kaduna.
