NWFL:Sunshine Queens Suffer Defeat In Lagos

Goals from Bolaji Olamide and Bunmi Adenuga were not enough for Sunshine Queens FC to pick a point against FC Robo in the match day two of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL played at the Mobalaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos on Wednesday .

Olamide scored from Nwamaka Augusta’s square pass in the 28 minutes of the encounter to put the visitors ahead.

FC Robo reacted swiftly with their long balls, but met Sunshine Queens brick wall controlled by the Goalkeeper, Jennifer Ukam.

The Akure Landladies intensified efforts to make it two before the end of the first half were not successful as the first stanza ended 0-1.

FC Robo pulled one back in the 57 minutes through Folashade Ijamilusi’s penalty that was contested by the players, but the Center Referee stuck to her decision.

FC Robo extended their lead in the 75 minutes through Favour Nkwocha, while Bunmi Adenuga scored a leveller for Sunshine Queens moment later, to change the score line to 2-2.

FC Robo third goal was the debate of the South West derby as the Lagos Landladies’ shot hit a crossbar while Ajakaye Opeyemi nodded the rebound into goal kick, but the center referee without VAR pointed to the center for restart in favour of FC Robo.

Moment later, Sunshine Queens winger, Taiwo Aganmuyi was crushed inside the box 18 but the Center referee looked not to be convinced enough to give a penalty to the visitors, despite all the appeal by the Sunshine Queens players.

In his post match interview, Sunshine Queens Head coach, Oladimeji Abimbola commended his players for a job well done, saying he was not disappointed with their performance.

He added that it was not easy to score two beautiful goals in an away match.

Oladimeji who refused to talk about the officiating, said as a Journalists you all watched the match, just report what you saw.

“It’s not my duty to rate referees, NWFL officials and other football lovers are all here watching the match”, he said.
