Nigerian champions, Enyimba went home with $1m despite their disappointing exit from the African Football League.

The staggering amount is the People’s Elephant participation fee for the inaugural edition of the competition.

Enyimba suffered an agonising 3-0 defeat to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic in the second leg of their quarter-final clash at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca on Thursday night.

The hosts went in front through Ayoub El Amloud in four minutes.

Jamal Harkass and Yahya Attiyat-Allah scored the other goals for the Red Castle.

Finidi George’s side were bundled out of the competition 4-0 on aggregate, having lost the first leg 1-0.

It would be recalled that Enyimba also suffered an early exit from the CAF Champions League following a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya.

The People’s Elephant will now concentrate on the defence of their Nigeria Premier Football League title.
