Coach Aliyu Zubair of Elkanemi Warriors has commended the reforms spearheaded by NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye, lauding the enhanced financial incentives and the synchronized schedule aligning with other African football leagues.
Addressing the press at the Kwara SWAN media event in Ilorin on Thursday, the mentor of the 2024 President Federation Cup victors expressed nuanced sentiments regarding the substantial migration of Nigerian players to the Benin League.
While acknowledging the benefits of international exposure, he underscored the detrimental effect on the Nigerian League’s competitiveness.
Zubair urged football authorities to elevate the standards of stadium facilities, underscoring the stark reality that only one Nigerian stadium currently meets CAF’s criteria for hosting Champions League matches.
“It is disconcerting that only a solitary stadium meets CAF’s standards for Champions League fixtures. This serves as a poignant indication of underlying issues that we must address,”remarked Coach Zubair.
Encouraging the people of Kwara to fervently support Kwara United Football Club as the fresh NPFL season unfolds, he emphasized the club’s significance as a cherished heritage deserving comprehensive backing.
