2023/24 NWFL: Edo Queens, Sunshine Queens, Ratels Win Big As League Resumes

Action resumed in the Nigeria Women Football League after a three-week break with exciting results recorded across eight centres.
In Group A, Naija Ratels recorded a 3-1 win over newly promoted Dannaz Ladies in Abuja with goals from Grace Saliu, Sofiat Bankole and Dorcas John while Nofisat Aiyegbami scored the only goal for the visitors
In Lokoja, Confluence Queens overpowered Adamawa Queens 2-0, with the duo of Chinyere Emenike and Mary Mamudu on target. Mary Lucky’s late goal in Owerri, helped Heartland Queens pip Nasarawa Amazons 1-0, while Royals Queens held Abia Angels to a goalless draw in Aba.
Group B had some surprising results as we saw Edo Queens thrash 7-time champions, Rivers Angels 4-1 in the South-south derby played at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin. Goodness Osigwe hattrick and Amarachukwu Onuorah’s goal were all the Moses Aduku’s side needed to inflict the heavy defeat on the former champions. Peace Effiong’s goal was the only consolation for the Port Harcourt side.
Sunshine Queens kept a cleansheet as they thrashed visiting FC Robo Queens3-0 in Akure, thanks to and own-goal from Fasilat Adeyemo with Taiwo Ajibade and Shola Oduwale netting the other two.
Blessing Abiola’s 78th minute strike helped Bayelsa victory in the battle of the Queens, as they recorded the only away victory of the match day in the triumph over Ekiti Queens. Remo Stars Ladies secured a 1-0 win over Delta Queens in Ikenne, thanks to Hannah Ibrahim’s lone strike.
Following this week’s results, Heartland Queens have moved from 2nd to 1st on the log in Group A with 18pts while Rivers Angels dropped to 2nd in Group B, also with 18pt. Bayelsa Queens moves to the top with one point more on 19.
