Nigerian international Ademola Lookman delivered a decisive performance to help Atletico Madrid secure a hard-fought place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, edging past FC Barcelona with a 3–2 aggregate victory.
Heading into the second leg trailing 2–0, Barcelona came out firing at home, determined to overturn the deficit.
Their bright start paid off almost immediately as teenage sensation Lamine Yamal opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Ferran Torres.
Momentum stayed firmly with the Catalan side as Torres soon turned from provider to scorer, doubling Barcelona’s lead within minutes and leveling the tie on aggregate. At that point, it appeared Hansi Flick’s men were on course for a famous comeback.
However, Atletico Madrid responded with the resilience and tactical discipline synonymous with manager Diego Simeone. The decisive moment arrived when Lookman rose to the occasion, netting a crucial goal that ultimately swung the tie back in Atletico’s favor.
His strike proved to be the difference-maker, silencing the home crowd and restoring Atletico’s aggregate advantage. Lookman’s influence lasted until the 66th minute, when he was substituted for Nico González after an impressive display.
