Premier League leaders Arsenal suffered a major setback in the title race after surrendering a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 against struggling Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday night.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be cruising toward a vital three points after taking firm control of the contest, but a spirited late fightback from the hosts turned the game on its head and handed fresh momentum to second-placed Manchester City.
Arsenal started brightly and went ahead inside five minutes when Bukayo Saka rose highest to head home the opener.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their advantage in the 56th minute, with Piero Hincapie powering forward before unleashing a clinical finish past the Wolves goalkeeper.
However, the tide began to shift just five minutes later. Hugo Bueno curled a superb effort into the top corner in the 61st minute to give Wolves hope and ignite the home crowd.
Despite sitting bottom of the table, Wolves refused to back down.
Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when Tom Edozie struck in the fourth minute of added time to complete a dramatic comeback and secure a valuable point for the hosts.
The result marks back-to-back league draws for Arsenal, following their 1-1 stalemate with Brentford, and trims their lead at the summit to just five points over Manchester City who also have a game in hand.
With the top two still scheduled to face each other before the season concludes, the Premier League title race remains finely poised.
For Arsenal, who have finished runners-up in each of the last three campaigns, the pressure appears to be mounting at a crucial stage of the season.
Meanwhile, the draw lifts Wolves’ tally to 10 points, though their relegation fears remain very real as the campaign enters its decisive phase.
