The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea to officiate the highly anticipated semi-final clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Morocco at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Laryea, 39, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s elite referees and has earned CAF’s confidence for one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
The encounter between two continental heavyweights is expected to be fiercely contested, placing significant responsibility on the match officials.
This will be Laryea’s second officiating assignment at AFCON 2025.
He previously took charge as centre referee during the group-stage encounter between Algeria and Burkina Faso, a match praised for its firm and balanced officiating.
In addition to his on-field role, the experienced Ghanaian was also part of the officiating crew earlier in the tournament, serving as head of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team during the quarter-final match between Morocco and Cameroon.
Assisting Laryea on the pitch will be South Africa’s Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane, who will serve as first and second assistant referees respectively.
Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda has been named the fourth official.
VAR duties for the semi-final will be overseen by renowned South African referee Abongile Tom, further strengthening the officiating team for what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
With a place in the AFCON 2025 final at stake, all eyes will be on the officials as Nigeria and Morocco battle for continental supremacy.
