Sharp Striker FC and Imo FC played out a tense and entertaining goaless draw in the second game of Match Day 6, with Imo FC creating more chances but ultimately failing to find the breakthrough in a contest dominated by goalkeeping heroics.
The encounter started at a high tempo, with both teams cautiously sizing each other up in the opening exchanges. By the 7th minute, it was already clear that the game would be an end-to-end affair, as neither side was willing to sit back.
Imo FC carved out the first real chance of the match in the 8th minute, but Sharp Striker goalkeeper Abdulai Tajudeen was equal to the task, calmly saving to keep his side level. The home side continued to press and came close again in the 38th minute when Muhammed Agboola found space for a shot, only to send his effort over the crossbar.
Sharp Striker FC responded just before the break. In the 42nd minute, Ibrahim Oke brilliantly beat his marker and went through on goal, but his finishing let him down as he failed to convert. With neither side able to capitalize on their chances, the first half ended goalless.
The second half resumed with Imo FC showing greater attacking intent. Just five minutes after the restart, Toyeeb Rafiu got on the end of a promising move but dragged his shot off target in the 50th minute.
Imo FC were awarded a dangerous free kick two minutes after the one hour mark, close to the Sharp Striker penalty area. Ayomide Omoniyi cleverly aimed for space on the left side of the wall, but Tajudeen read the effort perfectly, diving to push the ball out for a corner kick.
Four minutes later, the Sharp Striker goalkeeper was called into action again. A square pass from the right found Rafiu in a good position, but Tajudeen produced a strong save and reacted quickly to deny the rebound as well.
The pressure continued to mount on Sharp Striker FC. In the 71st minute, a corner kick was swung in for Imo FC, and Olaadura Adisa connected with a shot that rolled narrowly across the face of goal, missing by inches.
Another golden opportunity arrived in the 74th minute from yet another free kick close to the box. Substitute Ibrahim Adeniji delivered the ball, which Tajudeen punched clear under pressure. Rafiu headed the rebound into the path of Ibrahim Tijani, who nodded goalwards, but Sharp Striker defenders made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the scores level.
Imo FC’s best chance to win the game came in eight minutes before stoppage time. Adisa chested the ball and laid it off to Tijani, who cleverly set up Rafiu for what looked like a certain goal. However, Rafiu’s effort drifted wide, squandering a clear scoring opportunity.
Despite sustained late pressure from Imo FC, Sharp Striker FC held firm, with Tajudeen’s outstanding performance between the posts proving decisive.
