Ademola Lookman delivered a scintillating performance to be named Man of the Match as the Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia in their second Group C encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday night.
The hard-fought win not only underlined Nigeria’s attacking quality but also confirmed Eric Chelle’s side as one of the first teams to book a place in the Round of 16, following their earlier 2–1 triumph over Tanzania in the tournament opener.
Lookman was at the heart of Nigeria’s attacking play throughout the encounter, producing a decisive display that yielded one goal and two assists against the Carthage Eagles.
The Atalanta winger’s creativity, pace, and composure repeatedly unsettled the Tunisian defence and proved instrumental in the Super Eagles’ victory.
The 28-year-old set the tone for the contest moments before halftime, delivering a pinpoint cross that was clinically headed home by Victor Osimhen to give Nigeria the lead in the 44th minute.
Five minutes after the restart, Lookman was again the architect, supplying a perfectly weighted pass for Wilfred Ndidi, who doubled the advantage with a well-taken finish.
Lookman capped his outstanding performance in the 67th minute, calmly slotting home Nigeria’s third goal to put daylight between the two sides.
Although Tunisia mounted a late fightback, the Super Eagles showed resilience and maturity to see out the contest and claim all three points.
The goal marked Lookman’s second of the tournament, further highlighting his growing influence at AFCON 2025 and reinforcing his importance to the Nigerian squad as the competition progresses.
With two wins from two matches, the Super Eagles have made an impressive start in Morocco, and Lookman’s Man of the Match display will boost confidence within the camp as attention now turns toward the knockout phase of the tournament.
