Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year, capping off a historic season for the Paris Saint-Germain defender.
The announcement was made on Monday night during the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony.
Hakimi, 27, emerged winner ahead of two major contenders Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah of Liverpool. His victory ends the reign of Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, who won the award in 2024.
This year’s triumph marks a significant personal milestone for Hakimi, who had finished as runner-up for two consecutive years before finally clinching the top honour.
The Moroccan full-back enjoyed a sensational 2023/24 campaign with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), playing an instrumental role in the club’s dominance across all competitions.
His contributions were vital as PSG secured the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and, most notably, their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophya landmark achievement in the club’s history.
Despite currently nursing an injury, Hakimi made a courageous appearance at the awards ceremony, arriving with his foot heavily strapped.
His presence drew applause from fans and dignitaries, further highlighting his dedication and passion for the game.
Hakimi’s win strengthens his status as one of the finest full-backs in world football and underscores Morocco’s rising influence on the African football landscape.
