Rivers United will depart Nigeria today (Wednesday) for Cairo ahead of their CAF Champions League Matchday One showdown with defending champions Pyramids FC.
The Pride of Rivers arrived in Lagos on Tuesday from Port Harcourt and will fly out through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport as they continue preparations for their highly anticipated group-stage debut.
The opening fixture will take place on Saturday at the iconic 30 June Stadium in Cairo, where Finidi George’s men will be looking to make a strong statement against one of North Africa’s most formidable sides.
This season marks Rivers United’s first-ever appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage, a milestone the team hopes to celebrate with a positive start.
Following their clash in Egypt, the Nigerian representatives will return home to host Moroccan heavyweights RS Berkane in their second Group Stage match.
That encounter is scheduled for Friday, 28 November, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Rivers United will be aiming to navigate the group successfully as they chase continental glory and seek to establish themselves among Africa’s elite clubs.
