Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football continues to draw recognition, as Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood, and the Super Falcons have all earned nominations for the prestigious CAF Awards 2025.
Madugu has been shortlisted for CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, following his remarkable leadership in guiding the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco last summer.
The Falcons sealed their historic triumph with a thrilling 3–2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final — a result that reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance on the continent.
Also flying the Nigerian flag is Shakirat Moshood, captain of the country’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, who is among the nominees for CAF Young Player of the Year. Moshood is set to lead her team at the upcoming 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, also to be staged in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons have been shortlisted for CAF Women’s National Team of the Year, recognizing their resilience, consistency, and continued excellence in African football.
Nigeria’s multiple nominations once again highlight the country’s growing influence and success story in women’s football across the continent.
