NPFL Slams ₦1 Million Fine On Clubs Over Ball Boys’ Time-Wasting

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has introduced a new disciplinary measure aimed at curbing time-wasting tactics involving ball boys during league matches.
In a circular issued to all participating clubs, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, announced that any club found guilty of encouraging or failing to control ball boys who deliberately delay play will face a fine of ₦1 million.
According to the statement, “Any team found wanting and encouraging this will be sanctioned with a fine of One Million Naira, as such behaviour is contrary to fair play and brings the game into disrepute.”
Owumi emphasized that the league views such conduct as misconduct, punishable under the NPFL framework and rules.
He further reiterated the NPFL’s commitment to upholding the integrity, transparency, and credibility of Nigeria’s top-flight league, stressing that the new policy aligns with the body’s ongoing reforms to improve matchday standards and fairness across all venues.
