‎Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle has expressed immense pride and satisfaction following the Super Eagles’ emphatic 4–0 win over Benin Republic in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

‎The victory, powered by a Victor Osimhen hat-trick and a fine strike from Frank Onyeka, secured Nigeria a second-place finish in Group C — enough to seal a spot in next month’s CAF playoff tournament for one of Africa’s final World Cup berths.

‎Speaking after the game, Chelle hailed his players for their resilience and adaptability, noting that the team’s progress under a new coaching philosophy has been remarkable.

‎ “I’m so proud of my players,” Chelle said. “They deserved this victory. It was not easy with a new coach, a new philosophy, and so much change — but they adapted quickly. Tonight, I’m just happy for them. They played a great game.”

‎The Franco-Malian tactician, who only recently took charge of the Super Eagles, was quick to caution that the journey is far from over.

‎ “Now, we turn our attention to Morocco. This is not the end — it’s only the beginning. The next stage will be very difficult, but we’re ready to keep fighting,” he added.

‎Chelle also praised the Nigerian fans for their unwavering support, describing their energy as instrumental to the team’s success.

‎ “Thank God for this win, and thank you to the fans. They helped push us to victory. The players gave everything. They are my champions,” he said. “And of course, I have to mention the best striker in the world — Victor Osimhen.”
