‎Bayelsa United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rivers United in an electrifying South-South derby at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Monday morning.

‎The encounter, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed due to heavy rainfall that rendered the pitch unplayable.

‎Despite playing away from home, Bayelsa United showed great composure and determination to hand Rivers United their first defeat of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

‎Shuaibu Garba opened the scoring for the visitors in the 28th minute after capitalizing on a defensive lapse by the hosts. Nineteen minutes from time, Chinedu Emmanuel doubled Bayelsa United’s advantage with a fine finish to put them firmly in control.

‎Rivers United’s Stephen Manyo pulled one back deep into stoppage time, but it was too late to spark a comeback as Bayelsa United held on to claim all three points.
