‎Violence marred Sunday’s Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8 clash between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars (3SC) after the visitors scored a dramatic late equaliser at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

‎The game, which ended 1-1, descended into chaos in stoppage time when Shooting Stars struck a 94th-minute equaliser, prompting an angry reaction from sections of the home crowd.

‎Moments after the goal, enraged Kano Pillars supporters invaded the pitch, targeting the referee, match officials, and Shooting Stars players. Security operatives were forced to fire teargas canisters to disperse the violent crowd and restore order.

‎Eyewitnesses reported that dozens of fans, some armed with sticks and other objects, broke through the security barriers and chased officials and players off the pitch. The match officials, fearing for their safety, sprinted toward the tunnel as chaos erupted around them.

‎“It was total confusion,” a journalist who witnessed the incident told reporters. “Once Shooting Stars scored, the fans lost control. They jumped the barriers, ran into the pitch, and started chasing the referee. Security had to fire teargas to push them back.”

‎Several players and coaches from both teams also fled the pitch amid the commotion. As of press time, the NPFL and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are expected to investigate the incident and consider possible sanctions against Kano Pillars.
