Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has reached another historic milestone, becoming Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer in FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Pharaohs’ captain achieved the record on Wednesday after netting twice in Egypt’s 3–0 victory over Djibouti, taking his total to 20 goals in World Cup qualifying matches.
With that feat, Salah surpassed a distinguished list of African football icons Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Moumouni Dagano (Burkina Faso), and Islam Slimani (Algeria) who each previously held the joint record with 18 goals.
The Liverpool forward etched his name into history early in the game when he opened the scoring with his trademark composure, before sealing Egypt’s triumph with a delightful chipped finish late on. His brace not only guided Egypt to a comfortable win but also helped secure their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This latest milestone further reinforces Salah’s legendary status, adding to a glittering career that already includes numerous records in both African and European football.
The 32-year-old continues to inspire millions across the continent, solidifying his place among the greatest African players of all time.
