In a spectacular Madrid derby on September 27, Atlético Madrid overwhelmed city rivals Real Madrid with a 5-2 victory, ending Real’s perfect start to the season.
Real had surged ahead through goals from Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler, but Atlético responded fiercely. Robin Le Normand opened the scoring early, and Alexander Sørloth restored parity just before half-time.
The second half belonged to Atlético. Julián Álvarez converted a penalty and later curled in a brilliant free kick. Antoine Griezmann added a late goal to seal the emphatic win.
The win lifts Atlético to fourth place in La Liga, while Real Madrid remain top but suffer a significant blow to their momentum.
