The draw for the Carabao Cup round of 16 has produced several mouthwatering fixtures, with Premier League giants and historic rivals set to clash later this month.
Holders Newcastle United will face a stern test as they host Tottenham Hotspur in an all-Premier League showdown, while Wolverhampton Wanderers will welcome Chelsea to Molineux in another top-flight battle.
Arsenal, who last lifted the trophy in 1993, have been paired against Brighton & Hove Albion as Mikel Arteta’s side aim to end their 32-year wait for Carabao Cup glory. Meanwhile, Premier League champions Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in what promises to be a heavyweight contest at Anfield.
One of the standout stories of this season’s competition is the presence of all three Welsh clubs in the last 16 for the first time.
The draw has delivered a historic all-Welsh clash between Wrexham and Cardiff City — their first meeting since 2002. Elsewhere, 2013 winners Swansea City face the daunting task of hosting Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Grimsby Town, one of the lower-league representatives left in the competition, will test their resolve against Brentford, while Wycombe Wanderers entertain Fulham in another David-versus-Goliath encounter.
The round of 16 ties will take place during the week commencing 27 October.
