The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a series of fixture adjustments to its Matchday 6 schedule in order to accommodate the continental engagements of four clubs representing Nigeria in CAF competitions.
According to a memo signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, the changes were deemed necessary to ensure the affected clubs are given adequate room to prepare and compete in their respective continental assignments.
Clubs on Continental Duty:
CAF Champions League: Remo Stars, Rivers United
CAF Confederation Cup: Abia Warriors, Kwara United
As a result, several fixtures involving these sides have been rescheduled:
Abia Warriors vs Remo Stars → Now to be played on October 1
Rivers United vs Niger Tornadoes → Rescheduled to October 1
Kano Pillars vs Kwara United → Shifted to October 8 at Sani Abacha Stadium
In a related adjustment, Plateau United and Bendel Insurance will now host their home matches on Saturdays instead of Sundays. This new arrangement begins on September 27, when:
Bendel Insurance host Bayelsa United
Plateau United welcome El-Kanemi Warriors at the New Jos Road Stadium
All other NPFL Matchday 6 fixtures will proceed as originally scheduled.
The NPFL management reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian clubs competing on the continental stage, emphasizing that such adjustments are vital for balancing domestic commitments with international aspirations.
