‎Nigerian football fans are in for a treat as Remo Stars and Kwara United prepare to launch their continental campaigns from the historic MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.

‎The Sky Blue Stars, reigning NPFL champions, have been granted approval to play their CAF Champions League first preliminary round fixtures at the Ogun State venue, as their permanent Ikenne base remains under renovation.

‎ Coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s men, who already host NPFL matches in Abeokuta this season, will welcome Comoros Islands outfit, U.S. Zilimadjou, in what promises to be a high-octane clash.

‎In a remarkable twist, U.S. Zilimadjou have opted to host their own home leg at the same Abeokuta ground, impressed by the extensive renovations undertaken by Remo Stars.

‎The Nigerian champions will be desperate to break new ground by advancing beyond the opening stage for the first time in their history, with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns looming in the next round.

‎First Leg: Sunday, 21st September – Remo Stars vs U.S. Zilimadjou (4pm kickoff)

‎Second Leg: Friday, 26th September – U.S. Zilimadjou vs Remo Stars (4pm kickoff, Abeokuta)

‎Meanwhile, Federation Cup holders Kwara United will also stage their CAF Confederation Cup campaign in Abeokuta after their Ilorin base failed to meet CAF requirements despite last-minute upgrades.

‎The Harmony Boys, coached by Tunde Sanni, have been handed a daunting first-round tie against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. They will travel to Ghana this weekend for the first leg before returning to Abeokuta for the decisive reverse fixture.

‎First Leg: Sunday, 21st September – Asante Kotoko vs Kwara United (in Ghana)

‎Second Leg: Sunday, 28th September – Kwara United vs Asante Kotoko (4pm kickoff, Abeokuta)

‎Both Nigerian sides will be banking on home advantage in the Gateway State to push their continental ambitions further than ever before.
