Governor Diri Rewards Bayelsa Queens With Millions For Winning NWFL Title

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has showered millions of naira on the Bayelsa Queens Football Team for their outstanding performance in winning the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
Each of the 26 players received a reward of four million naira, while other players who were registered but did not play received one million naira each.
The head coach of the team received four million naira, while the chairman of the board received three million naira. Assistant coaches took home two million naira each, backroom staff received one point five million naira each, and board members got one million naira each.
The supporters club also received three million naira.
Governor Diri expressed his happiness with the team’s performance and urged them to represent Bayelsa State and Nigeria well in the upcoming WAFU Zone B tournament.
He also instructed an upward review of the salary of the state-owned male and female football teams
The Governor appreciated the partners and sponsors of the team, including Premium Trust Bank, and called on other corporate bodies to up their corporate social responsibility.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support and highlighted the need to keep the players together to perform better in the next tournament.
Premium Trust Bank also rewarded the players and technical officials with two million naira.
The team’s best goalkeeper, Monle Omini, won the best goalkeeper award, while Oyinkuro Frank won the best goalkeeper coach award, and Whyte Ogbonda was recognized as the best coach of the season.
