Nigeria’s reigning champions, D’Tigress, have secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket in Cote d’Ivoire.
They will face either Cameroon or Angola, depending on the outcome of the round of 16 match between the two teams.
D’Tigress topped Group D with two wins from two matches, defeating Mozambique 60-55 in their second game and Rwanda 92-45 in their opening match.
Their impressive performance has set them up for a quarter-final match against the winner of the Cameroon-Angola encounter.
Cameroon finished second in Group B after recording one win and one defeat. They edged out South Sudan 70-63 but lost to group winners Mali 75-49.
Angola, on the other hand, progressed to the knockout round despite losing their two Group A fixtures to hosts Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt.
The quarter-final match between D’Tigress and the winner of Cameroon-Angola is scheduled for after the round of 16 matches.
D’Tigress are aiming for their seventh title, having won the last four editions of the AfroBasket. Only Senegal have won more titles, with 11.
Senegal, the team with the most AfroBasket titles, will face Rwanda in the round of 16. If they win, they will meet Côte d’Ivoire in the quarter-finals.
