The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the remarkable reward given to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team.
The team recently won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, defeating Morocco 3-2 in the final.
Each player received $100,000, while the 11 officials received $50,000.
Each team member was gifted a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate.
The players and officials were conferred with the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Gusau described President Tinubu’s gesture as a great motivation for the girl-child in Nigeria, saying, “I am overjoyed because Mr. President has done what no leader before him had done. This is a magnificent day for women’s football and indeed, football generally. His action will serve as a fillip to draw out the girl-child in our country to seek greatness through legitimate ways.”
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum also showed appreciation for the team’s achievement, gifting each player and member of the coaching staff ₦10 million.
Some Super Eagles players even contributed ₦1 million each to the Super Falcons players as a mark of solidarity and encouragement
