Ashleigh Plumptre, the talented defender for Al-Ittihad Ladies of Saudi Arabia and the Super Falcons of Nigeria, has shared her heartfelt reflections on switching allegiance from England to Nigeria.
Born in Leicester, England, Plumptre began her football journey with England’s youth setup, representing the country at various levels, including U-15, U-17, U-19, and U-23.
Plumptre’s decision to represent Nigeria, her paternal heritage, was a bold and heartfelt choice. Ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she opted to switch allegiance, citing her pride in her roots and a desire to represent her heritage on the field.
