Bayelsa Queens came from behind to defeat Sunshine Queens 2-1 in the first match of their playing tour on Thursday.
The match, held at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education Sports Complex in Ondo City, saw Sunshine Queens take the lead in the 67 minutes with Faith Oyewole shot that beat Linda Jiwuaku in goal for the Prosperity Girls, after a goalless first half.
But the Prosperity Girls responded strongly, with Emem Essien shot going into the post, but Victoria Lucky, a defender of the Akure ladies headed it away and it was Kafayat Mafisere that made it 1-1 in the 80th minute.
Blessing Ilivieda with a thunderous shot from outside the 18 yard box in the 90th minute completed the comeback.
Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Whyte Ogbonda said Sunshine Queens gave his girls a good fight.
“Before we came, people were saying we should play a more experienced side, but I said no, we need an amateur side that can give us a good fight and Sunshine Queens gave us that fight”, Whyte said.
“With this game today, it has given us the idea of where to work on as we continue our preparations for the big stage”, Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.
Head Coach of Sunshine Queens Oseni Rafiu said it was a good game from both sides.
“Towards the end of the game, Bayelsa Queens Showed class, they showed that they are champions of the league, though my players did well, but the best and better team won the match”, Coach Oseni added.
The Prosperity Girls will tomorrow (Friday) move to Lagos, and on Saturday face Unification Ladies, on Monday they will tackle the WAFA selected side and on Thursday 24th July, 2025 battle FC Robo Queens.
