Nigeria’s Esther Kolawole has emerged victorious at the Grand Prix of Spain, defeating Haylie Jaffe of the USA 10-0 by superiority in the 62kg weight class.
The reigning African champion dominated the tournament, securing wins over Lydia Perez Tourino of Spain and Polish wrestler Alicja Nowosad en route to the final.
Kolawole’s gold medal win is a testament to her potential and hard work.
The Nigerian Wrestling Federation’s President, Honourable Daniel Igali, praised her motivated performance, expressing confidence that the experience will shape her for future international events.
“Igali noted that he is satisfied with the incredible outing, saying that if she continues on that trajectory, Nigerians should be hopeful of many gold medals in the near future from her,” the federation said.
Kolawole will next compete in the Ranking Series in Budapest, Hungary, from July 14th to 19th, 2025, as she prepares for the World Wrestling Championship in Croatia later this year.
