Chelsea Football Club has announced the signing of Brazilian international Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old forward has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues and has already joined the squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras.

Pedro expressed his excitement to join Chelsea, highlighting the club’s rich history and talented players.

“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,” Pedro told the club’s official website. “They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

Pedro is a product of Fluminense, one of Brazil’s biggest clubs, where he emerged as a teenager with a natural eye for goal.

He scored 10 times in 36 games for Fluminense before moving to English football. He then played for Watford, where he made 109 appearances and scored 24 goals across four seasons. In 2023, Pedro signed for Brighton, where he made an instant impact, scoring on his debut and finishing the season as the Seagulls’ joint-top scorer with 19 goals in all competitions.

As a versatile forward, Pedro brings top-flight experience to Chelsea, having played for several clubs and represented Brazil on the international stage.

He has earned three caps for Brazil, with his most recent appearance coming in a 2-1 win over Colombia.
