Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is in hot water after being deferred to the disciplinary commission for allegedly deliberately receiving a yellow card in a Serie A match against Lazio.

The Nigeria international could face a ban of up to four years if found guilty.

The incident occurred in the 64th minute of the match on March 11, 2024, when Okoye was booked for time-wasting with his team leading 2-1.

Authorities noticed a surge in suspicious betting activity around Okoye receiving the yellow card, with odds of 8/1 allegedly generating over €120,000 in winning bets.

Okoye and three friends have been placed under investigation for sporting fraud, a more serious charge than initially thought.

The allegations suggest that Okoye may have intentionally received the yellow card to influence the game’s outcome or gain an unfair advantage.

If found guilty, Okoye could face a four-year ban, which would significantly impact his career with Udinese and the Nigerian national team.

The 25-year-old joined Udinese from Watford in 2023 and has been a key player for the team.
