As Gateway United prepare for their final game of the season against Godswill Akpabio United FC in Uyo, Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, has charged the players to go all out for victory, backing his words with financial motivation and the promise of a bumper reward if they secure maximum points.
The commissioner met with the team at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta just before their departure to Uyo.
“We want you to know that the government and the people of Ogun State are solidly behind you,” he said.
“This is a crucial match, and you can’t afford to falter. It’s a winnable game. From our end, we’ve fulfilled our responsibilities by ensuring prompt payment of salaries and offsetting all bonuses. A bumper financial reward awaits you if you get the job done.”
In response, assistant captain Kabiru Popoola expressed appreciation on behalf of the players.
“We thank the Honourable Commissioner for his consistent support. We know what is at stake, and we promise to give our all to make the state proud.”
Also speaking, the club’s Acting General Manager, Niyi Soleye, assured that the team is fully prepared to justify the confidence reposed in them.
“The team is upbeat and ready. The technical crew and the entire squad are focused, and we will give our all in Uyo.”
The Gateway United’s fixture in Uyo will determine their Nigeria National League (NNL) status for next season.
