Morocco Win First U-17 Africa Cup Of Nations AFter Dramatic Penalty Shootout

The 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations concluded on Saturday with Morocco being crowned champions for the first time. They defeated Mali 4-2 on penalties to win the title on home soil following a scoreless draw.
The first half was a balanced affair with the Atlas Cubs showing more attacking intent. Mali midfielder Issa Tounkara had a powerful shot from outside the box but Moroccan goalkeeper Chouaib Bellaarouch made a solid save.
The hosts came close to taking the lead through striker Ziyad Baha, whose goal-bound effort was brilliantly saved by Lamine Saba to keep the score at 0-0 at halftime.
After the break, two-time champions Mali looked more threatening in front of goal. Seydou Dembele tested Bellaarouch twice but the Moroccan keeper rose to the challenge. With the game ending in a goalless draw after ninety minutes, a penalty shootout was needed to decide the champion.
Morocco emerged victorious, winning 4-2 on penalties. Bellaarouch saved two crucial spot kicks to help secure Morocco’s maiden U-17 AFCON title while the hosts were precise and decisive, converting all four of their attempts.
