The finals of the maiden edition of the Donko Inter village unity championship was played yesterday March 17 between Ohafia village and eventual winners Ngwa village FC

The month-long tournament had the much anticipated grandfinale staged at the Enyimba International stadium Aba with a record crowd attendance ranging between 10000-12000 spectators-a rare scenario on NPFL matchdays saw Ngwa village thrash Ohafia village 4-1 thanks to Ikechukwu Isaac hattrick propelling Ngwa Village to be gracefully crowned the maiden winners.

Speaking at the grandfinale, the donor and tournament initiator, Hon Roseson Francis Obasi described the competition as a unifying factor that has brought unity to the 12 participating villages whilst maintaining that the tournament will be a continuous affair going forward.

Also speaking, the mayor of Ohafia, Chief Eleanya Kalu Oju described the initiator of the tournament as a worthy ambassador of peace and unity, urging the teeming crowd to support him by remaining unified and coexist in peace.

The grandfinale was an assemblage of dignitaries from different walks of life, and wasn’t bereft of royalty either with the presence of His Royal Majesty Eze Egege, the Ugwu 1 of Ogbor Ancient Kingdom also gracing the grandfinale.

Highlights of the grandfinale of the tournament was the presentation of the much coveted giant trophy to the winners along with cash and prizes were equally presented to first, second runner up teams and individual players that stood out during the tournament.

The Donko inter village football tournament wasn’t just a soccer competition, truly it was one for the ages.
