Pioneer Secretary of Ondo State Football Agency, ODSFA, Otunba Dele Ologbese has said it would be a national embarrassment if Super Eagles fail to qualify for the next World Cup having missed the last edition held in Qatar in 2022.
Super Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw in Uyo on Tuesday after beating Rwanda in Kigali four days earlier
The result leaves Super Eagles fourth on the log with 7 points, 6 points adrift of table topper, South Africa with 13 points
Otunba Ologbese, while reacting to team’s failure in beating Zimbabwe in a crucial World Cup qualifying match, said that the team lacked cohesion and character, pointing out that the ideal thing is for the gaffer, Eric Chelle to instantly resigned his position to pave way for a better tactician who will give it a proper direction
In his own words, he said that, “the failure of Super Eagles in garnering the three points at stake in their crucial home match against Zimbabwe in Uyo is a national disgrace that exposed their complacency, inconsistencies or unpreparedness in facing World Cup’s challenges
“It will be a national disgrace if the team loses out of two editions of world cups in a row. We all know that Eric Chelle was hired to change team’s narratives for better after initial setbacks which made it unable to win its previous four games, and for not able to make marginal improvements in points in the two matches played so far under his watch, morality demands that he throws in the towel immidiately or he’s removed like the other coaches before him, subscribing to cliche that what’s good for the geese is also good for the gander
“The Super Eagles I saw, that played against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday is a weakling that lacked character of a good team that could make headway unless a reputable gaffer is quickly hired by NFF towards giving it effective directions.
The former vice-chairman of Ondo State Football Association backed, handling over Super Eagles to indigenous coaches
“I support the idea of handing over the team to indigenous gaffers with good pedigrees or with proper understandings of Nigerian’s terrain to tinker the team.
“It’s not too late. We shouldn’t lose hope. Nigeria can still qualify for the next World Cup if the right thing is done by the apex football body
