Imo Sports Commissioner Hosts Mini Football Association Chairman, Pledges Support for the Sport

The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, on Monday welcomed the Assistant National Mini Football Team Coach and Chairman of the Imo State Mini Football Association, Mr. Chigozie Nwagwu, to his office in Owerri. Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Mrs Ngozi Duru Victoria.

During the meeting, Hon. Onyeocha expressed a keen interest in the growth of mini football in Nigeria, acknowledging its rising popularity across Africa.

Mr. Nwagwu, who was accompanied by the Association’s Media Manager, Mr. Kennedy Onwunali, and another member of the group Engr Ihechi commended the Commissioner for his efforts in stabilizing sports administration in the state. He also highlighted the rapid growth of mini football in Nigeria and called on the government to support its development in Imo State. He noted that four African countries have already adopted the sport professionally, signaling its potential for expansion in Nigeria.

In response, Hon. Onyeocha assured the delegation of his commitment to fostering sports development in the state. He urged Coach Nwagwu to identify areas of collaboration for the promotion of mini football in Imo State.

The meeting marks a significant step toward integrating mini football into the state’s sports programs, with hopes of further popularizing the game among young talents in Imo.
