Wikki Tourists FC secures a commanding 2-0 victory over Sokoto United, on a matchday 7 encounter, to reclaim the top position in the Northern Conference C standings.
The encounter which took place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, as the host maintains its impressive performance through goals from Jonathan Mairiga and Nentaka Bangs in each havle to earned the Bauchi-based side the crucial three points to close the first round of the season on a high.
The game began with Wikki Tourists struggling to find their rhythm, but they soon gained control, piling pressure on the visitors.
Their breakthrough came in the 26’minutes when Jonathan Mairiga converted an assist from John Taiwo to give the home side the lead before halftime.
In the second half, Nentaka Bangs, who was later named Man of the Match, doubled the advantage in the 52′ minutes.
He latched onto another brilliant pass from John Taiwo, beaten off Sokoto United goalkeeper with a composed finish to make 2-0.
Head coach Abdu Maikaba expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and commended the players for their determination. “It’s important to start and end the first round strongly.
We will continue working hard to ensure we finish the season on top and qualify for the playoffs,” Maikaba said.
Wikki Tourists finish the first half of the season with 13points solidifying their position at the summit of the group standings.
