Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers maintained his fine form as he inspired Rangers to a pulsating 3-1 win over Dundee United in a Scottish Premiership clash. The 30-year-old forward, subject of scrutiny in recent weeks, turned in a commanding performance to confirm his resurgence in front of goal.

Early Setback for Rangers

It took until the 20th minute for Dundee United to get their goal and things didn’t look good for Rangers. Vicko Šelvjej’s shot was deflected into the path of English striker Sam Dalby who followed up to slot the ball past Jack Butland for a deserved advantage to the home side. The Gers, though, refused to be rattled and started to grow into the game.

Diomande Sparks the Comeback

That equalizer was added by Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande six minutes after the hour. Receiving a good ball from captain James Tavernier, he played himself through his marker and shot neatly into the bottom left, beating Dundee’s goalkeeper Jack Walton to the bottom of the goal.

Set- piece Delight As Propper and Dessers Seal It

The visitors went in front just four minutes later when Dutch defender Robin Pröpper scored. The 30-year-old met a perfectly placed cross from Ianis Hagi to hit a left-footed volley into the net, putting Rangers in front for the first time.

Dessers completed the turnaround in the 78th minute with a piece of magic. Dessers, who had an earlier effort ruled out for offside, made no mistake after teenager Zak Lovelace squared the ball to him in the box. The deafening blast from an acute angle ripped into the top corner to complete his fifth goal in three games and hush his detractors.

Rangers’ Late Drama and Cagey Tactics

The match was not without controversy, however, as Diomande was red carded in added time after a heated exchange with a Dundee United player. Rangers had to hold out with ten men to claim the crucial three points.

This is the fifth victory in eight for Rangers and closes the gap on Celtic at the top to 10 points. Finding his scoring touch again Dessers and a Gers able to get out of second gear, they appear well placed to maintain their title hopes alive.
