Osun United secured a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over ABS FC in a tense week 6 Nigeria National League (NNL) encounter. The match, played at Lanreleke Sports Complex in Ile-Ogbo, was closely contested, with Imole Boys showing grits and dominance from the start of the whistle.

Neither team could break the deadlock in the first half as Saraki Army’s low block tactics really worked perfectly for them, leaving the match evenly poised as the second half began.

Seye Ajayi tutored side continued where they left things, enduring frustrating moments that led to change of personnel upfront.

In the 67th minute, Osun United earned a penalty after a foul on Robiu Olateju inside ABS FC goal keeper’s territory. ABS FC, chased the game and tried to respond but found it difficult to penetrate, thanks to the partnership of Paul Agbor and Lekan Gabriel at the heart of the defense. Moments before the final whistle, Ilorin based outfit had a chance to restore the parity but wasted the well build up attempt in goal mouth, leaving them frustrated.

The final whistle confirmed Osun United’s 1-0 victory, a well-deserved three points that moves the team to the top of the table albeit on superior goal difference.

Gberefun’s decisive penalty proved to be the difference on the evening, further cementing his importance to the team. With this win, Osun United will look to build on this momentum. ‘Believe And Achieve’ side will play away to Godswill Akpabio FC in Uyo next weekend in Week Seven encounter.
