Ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala has shared hope with regards to Nigeria, and the Super Falconsददs future.
Oshoala, who spoke during an X Space event hosted by Kenneth Omeruo, said the team was bent on regaining their supremacy in the continent. “We need to focus on 2025, give it another crack to get back to winning ways and bring the trophies home like we used to,” she said.
The Nigeria forward, who referenced on Tuesday, their adventure at the Olympics in France after they were knocked out in the group stage, said there must be how to get better. “We came up against an extremely good opponent and we put on a performance that showed our quality, John said, but we need to keep moving forward.”
The six-time African Women’sFootballer of the Year credited the emergence of young players from the local league and increased cohesion among foreign-based players as critical to the team’s progress. “There is healthy competition for places now, and no one has an automatic spot,” she said.
Nigeria will be chasing a record-extending 12th WAFCON title, and Oshoala is confident. “The mentality is different, and everybody wants to win. “WAFCON will be a tournament to remember for us if we maintain this pace.”
