Enyimba FC stared at a difficult test in their CAF Confederation Cup as they fought to a 1-1 draw at home to Al Masry at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Mohammed Hashem’s early header gave the Egyptians the lead, but Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scored in the second half to level the score and leave Enyimba in contention. Al Masry had half a chance but Ani Ozoemena, after saving a second penalty out of two taken, medalzi caught another break.
With Zamalek SC already through to the last eight, Enyimba must now ensure they beat Zamalek in Cairo and simultaneously hope Mozambique’s Black Bulls can manage to hold Al Masry in their last group-stage outing.
The outcome leaves Enyimba third in the group’s standings and requiring a decisive victory and other favorable results to progress. Now their continental adventure may well rest upon a knife’s edge as Enyimba seek to keep it going.
