Mighty Jets Int’l FC continued their impressive run in the Nigeria National League (NNL) with a convincing 2-0 victory over Gombe United at the Zaria Road stadium. The win which marked their second consecutive triumph, propelled Jets to 2nd place in the NNL conference C log.
Amos Gyang opened the scoring in the 11th minute setting the tone for a dominant performance by the hosts. Ogenyi Matthew then sealed the win with a well-taken header in the 69th minute, leaving Gombe United’s defence reeling.
Mighty Jets Int’l FC’s goalkeeper, Gobum Rotduwe produced a string of impressive saves in the dying minutes of the game to ensure a clean sheet and cap off an outstanding team performance.
Head coach, Abubakar Ibrahim expressed his delight at the team’s display, praising their determination and resilience. Assistant coach Najib Mabo, meanwhile, downplayed injury concerns expressing confidence that his players would recover in time for their upcoming trip to face Sokoto United.
Mabo also emphasized the need for his team to focus on set pieces and capitalize on scoring opportunities, highlighting areas for improvement despite the convincing win.
In a show of sportsmanship, Gombe United’s coach Haruna Abdullahi speaking on behalf of head coach Bala Nikyu congratulated Mighty Jets Int’l FC on their victory, acknowledging that the game would serve as a valuable lesson for his team moving forward.
The result leaves Mighty Jets Int’l FC 2 points behind table-toppers, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi whose 3-1 victory against Jigawa Golden Stars FC means they have a total of 10 points.
