Nasarawa United secured a spot in the 3rd edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup Football Competition’s Quarter-finals by defeating Kano Selected FC 1-0 in a tense but entertaining second Group D match decided at the New Jos International Stadium, Plateau State on Thursday afternoon.
The Solid Miners’ decisive goal was scored just seven minutes into the game through the boot of Simon Akpor.
The NPFL returnees missed a flurry of goalscoring chances in the entertaining encounter with Terdoo Shimagande, Andrew Garba, and Davidson Fred all failing to increase the goal tally.
Much later in the game, Kano Selected thought they had drawn level, but Samuel Mailabari ballooned his golden opportunity over the bar.
The Lafia-based side held on to the slim scoreline up until the full-time whistle to secure a back-to-back win in Group D after an earlier 3-0 demolition of Ajester FC, two days ago, with Simon Akpor scooping the Man-of-the-Match gong for his stellar performance in the colours of Nasarawa United.
They will face the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, who took the place of Kwara United who failed to show up in the competition, on Saturday, 24th August, 2024, by 10 o’clock in the morning, in a formality game for the Coach Usman Adams’ wards.
United will square up against the runners-up team in Group B at the Quarter-final stage in a yet-to-be announced date and time.
