The Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the President of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has issued a strongly worded and emotional appeal for peace following a series of devastating attacks in Borno State, describing the incidents as deeply tragic and unacceptable.

In a statement reflecting profound grief and concern, Kida, who Hails from Borno State, lamented the recent wave of violence that has rocked several communities across his home state. He noted with sadness that the attacks occurred during the holy month of Ramadan—a period traditionally devoted to peace, reflection, and communal harmony—when explosions struck populated areas as residents gathered to break their fast, turning moments of worship into scenes of devastation.

Kida observed that the scale of destruction and loss of life has left many families shattered. He cited the heartbreaking account of a father who lost four children in a single incident, describing the tragedy as one that defies adequate expression. He added that across Borno, many households have been plunged into grief, with silence replacing the joy that once defined them.

The violence also claimed the lives of security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force and troops of the Nigerian Army who were actively engaged in protecting lives and property. Kida paid tribute to their bravery and sacrifice, noting that their unwavering commitment continues to serve as a critical safeguard against terror.

He further expressed deep sorrow over the killing of a young girl within the supposed safety of her home, stressing that the incident underscores the alarming reality that even the most vulnerable members of society are no longer spared. According to him, such acts intensify the collective anguish of the people and reinforce the urgent need to end the violence.

Condemning the attacks in unequivocal terms, Kida described them as senseless and inhumane, emphasizing that no justification exists for the taking of innocent lives or the destruction of communities.

He, however, extended appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for his continued leadership and commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. Kida also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their resilience, courage, and sustained efforts in combating insecurity.

In addition, he lauded the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Zulum for its proactive response in supporting affected communities, rebuilding critical infrastructure, and standing in solidarity with victims. He noted that such leadership has continued to inspire hope despite the prevailing challenges.

While condemning the violence, Kida made a solemn appeal to perpetrators to reconsider their actions, urging them to reflect on the pain inflicted on their own communities and to embrace peace over destruction.

He also called on the people of Borno to remain united and resolute, emphasizing the importance of compassion, collective responsibility, and mutual support. According to him, caring for victims, assisting displaced persons, and fostering community cohesion are essential steps toward recovery and lasting peace.

Despite the prevailing grief, Kida expressed optimism about the future of Borno State, stressing that the resilience of its people, coupled with sustained government intervention and security efforts, will ultimately restore peace and stability.
