Ademola Lookman featured prominently as Atlético Madrid secured an impressive 2-0 victory over FC Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League clash at the iconic Camp Nou.

Lookman was named in the starting XI and delivered a solid performance before being substituted in the 60th minute. Goals from Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth ensured Atlético left Catalonia with a crucial advantage.

Barcelona, who currently lead the La Liga standings, started brightly and looked the more dominant side early on. However, the turning point came when Pau Cubarsí was shown a red card for bringing down Giuliano Simeone, who was through on goal.

Álvarez capitalized on the resulting free-kick, curling home a superb effort to give Atlético the lead. Sørloth then doubled the advantage with 20 minutes remaining, putting the visitors firmly in control of the tie.

Having reached the semifinals last season, Barcelona now face an uphill battle.

The Catalan giants must produce a remarkable comeback in the return leg in Madrid if they are to keep alive their hopes of lifting the trophy they last won in 2015.

Atlético’s latest triumph also continues their dominance over Barcelona, having already eliminated them from the Copa del Rey semifinals in March.

This encounter marked the second of three meetings between the two sides within a two-week span.
