Serving as Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-17 Women National Team, the Flamingos, has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Today, with immense gratitude and a deep sense of fulfillment, I, Bankole Olowookere, reflect on a remarkable journey defined by resilience, unity, and historic achievement.

Leading the Flamingos to three FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup tournaments, including the unforgettable 2022 edition where we secured a bronze medal, remains a defining moment, not just for me, but for Nigerian football. Making history as the first Nigerian coach to win a World Cup medal at this level underscores what is possible when dedication meets collective belief.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the passionate fans and football lovers across Nigeria whose energy, prayers, and encouragement fueled the team through every challenge and triumph. Your belief in the Flamingos was a constant source of motivation.

My profound appreciation goes to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, for his leadership, trust, and support throughout my tenure. I also wish to specially recognize the former NFF Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, whose guidance and unwavering support have been pivotal throughout this journey. I remain grateful as well to both the present and past Board Members of the NFF, whose commitment and dedication to the growth of Nigerian football provided a solid foundation for our successes.

To the Technical Committee and the Technical Department of the NFF, ably led by Austin Eguavoen, I say thank you for your professionalism, technical insights, and continuous backing. Your role in shaping and supporting the team cannot be overstated.

I am equally grateful to my assistants and the entire technical crew who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Your dedication, sacrifices, and teamwork were instrumental in every milestone we achieved.

To the journalists and members of the media, thank you for telling our story, amplifying our successes, and keeping the spirit of the game alive. Your role in promoting women’s football in Nigeria remains invaluable.

As I take a step back, I do so with pride in what we have accomplished together and confidence in the future of the Flamingos. I warmly congratulate the newly appointed Head Coach, Hakeem Busari, and wish him great success in this new role. I am confident that he will build on the foundation laid and take the team to even greater heights.

Nigerian women’s football is on a steady rise, and I remain committed to supporting its growth in any capacity I can.

Thank you all for being part of this remarkable journey.

God bless the Flamingos.

God bless Nigerian football.
