Southampton FC delivered a stunning performance to knock Arsenal FC out of the FA Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in their quarter-final clash at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Still reeling from their recent EFL Cup Final defeat to Manchester City, Arsenal’s hopes of silverware this season suffered another major setback.

The Saints took control of the contest just before halftime, as Ross Stewart found the breakthrough to give the hosts a deserved lead. Arsenal responded late in the game, with substitute Viktor Gyökeres levelling matters with 22 minutes left on the clock.

However, the decisive moment came in the 85th minute when Shea Charles produced a clinical finish to restore Southampton’s advantage. The home side held firm in the closing stages to seal a memorable victory and secure their place in the semi-finals.

Southampton now join Chelsea FC, Manchester City, and the winner of the tie between West Ham United and Leeds United in the last four.

A trip to Wembley Stadium awaits later this month for the Championship promotion hopefuls, who are now dreaming of emulating the historic achievement of their 1976 side under Lawrie McMenemy, when Southampton famously lifted the FA Cup as a second-tier club.
