The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed down strict sanctions to Bendel Insurance and their technical adviser, Kennedy Boboye, following incidents of misconduct during their Matchday 32 fixture.

Boboye has been slammed with a 17-match suspension after being found guilty of gross misconduct during the encounter involving Bendel Insurance. The league body deemed his actions unacceptable and in violation of its disciplinary code.

In addition, Bendel Insurance have been fined ₦7 million for failing to provide adequate security at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium during Saturday’s match. The NPFL also cited the conduct of the club’s supporters, describing their behaviour as unsporting and capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

As part of the sanctions, the Benin-based side will play their next three home matches behind closed doors, with no fans allowed inside the stadium.

Despite the disciplinary measures, Bendel Insurance retain the right to appeal the decision in accordance with NPFL regulations.

The sanctions follow their Matchday 32 clash, where Bendel Insurance were held to a 2-2 draw by Plateau United.
