Former champions, Ogboin United of Ogboinbiri, have been knocked out of the 2026 Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup, following a dramatic defeat in the knockout stage.

Ogboin United fell 3-1 on penalties to Onde United of Ondewari after both sides settled for a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Korokorosei centre in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The result marks a major upset, ending the hopes of the former champions in this year’s competition.

With the victory, Onde United progressed to the Round of 32, joining a growing list of qualified teams including Mini FC, Igoni FC, Okoroma United, Fantua FC, FUO Kings, Kolo Creek United, Orashi FC, Edi 1 FC, Movers FC of Otuasega, and Krosaders FC.

At the Tombia centre, Rich Destiny FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Northern Warriors to book their place in the next round. Billy Engoye gave Rich Destiny the lead in the 37th minute, but Tobeye Patrick restored parity for Northern Warriors in the 65th minute.

With the game heading towards a draw, Daniel Tarila struck late in the 88th minute to seal victory and progression.

In another encounter at the same venue, Bayelsa State College of Nursing Sciences (BYSCONS) FC edged past Gbarain SC with a 2-1 win. Enisuoh Oyinkepreye opened the scoring early in the 4th minute and later added his second in the 73rd minute, while Wisdom had earlier pulled one back for Gbarain SC in the 35th minute.

Meanwhile, at the Amassoma centre, Eric FA advanced to the next stage after defeating NDU Oilers FC 4-3 on penalties. Both teams had played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time before Eric FA held their nerve in the shootout.

The action continues on Thursday, March 27, 2026, across seven centres in Yenagoa, as the tournament gathers momentum.

Attention will also shift to Sagbama Local Government Area this weekend, as the Prosperity Cup train moves to the next host centre in what promises to be another exciting phase of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle.
