The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially acknowledged receipt of an appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) challenging a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and award it to Morocco.

According to CAS, the Senegalese FA formally lodged the appeal on Tuesday, March 25, seeking to overturn CAF’s ruling. The federation is asking the tribunal to nullify the decision and reinstate Senegal as the rightful AFCON champions.

In addition, FSF has requested a temporary suspension of the deadline for submitting its full appeal brief, pending the release of CAF’s detailed grounds for the decision.

CAS confirmed that an arbitral panel will be constituted to hear the case. Once the panel is in place, a procedural timetable will be outlined to guide the arbitration process.

Speaking on the development, CAS Director General, Matthieu Reeb, assured stakeholders of a fair and efficient process.

“CAS is fully equipped to handle disputes of this nature, with the support of experienced and independent arbitrators,” Reeb stated.

“We recognise the strong interest from teams and supporters awaiting a final outcome, and we will ensure the proceedings are conducted as expeditiously as possible, while upholding the principles of fairness and due process.”

The case is expected to draw significant attention across the African football community as both parties await a decisive ruling.
