Manchester City delivered a commanding second-half performance to defeat Arsenal and lift the Carabao Cup, securing their ninth title in the competition and keeping their domestic treble ambitions alive.

The hero of the night was 21-year-old Nico O’Reilly, whose quickfire brace turned the tide in City’s favour. After a tightly contested first half, the breakthrough arrived in the 60th minute when O’Reilly reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the six-yard box.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had failed to hold onto a dangerous cross from Rayan Cherki, and the young forward made no mistake from close range.

Just four minutes later, O’Reilly struck again this time rising to meet a precise delivery from Matheus Nunes following a slick, well-orchestrated move by Pep Guardiola’s side. His clinical finishing sealed an emphatic victory and underlined his growing importance to the team.

The triumph marks another milestone for Manchester City, reinforcing their dominance in domestic competitions. For Arsenal, however, the defeat brings a significant setback, ending their hopes of securing a historic quadruple this season.

With both sides having endured a demanding run of fixtures, the upcoming international break offers a timely opportunity to regroup. City head into the pause full of confidence, while Arsenal must quickly refocus with crucial matches looming.

Attention will soon shift to the FA Cup, where City are set to host Liverpool in a quarter-final clash on April 4. On the same day, Arsenal will face a tricky away test against in-form Championship side Southampton.

Looking further ahead, Mikel Arteta’s men also have a high-stakes Champions League quarter-final tie against Sporting CP on the horizon. With multiple trophies still within reach, Arsenal will be eager to bounce back and reignite their pursuit of silverware.
